Heather

Heather has been involved in music from the age of 7 when she competed in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod with her school choir and came third. At age 8, Heather started to learn to play the trumpet, piano and harp. Playing in numerous musical groups in her teenage years including the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, Wingates and Sellers Engineering Brass Bands she was able to expand her performance credentials at an early age culminating in 1991 wining the Alexander Owen Memorial Scholarship.

Heather graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in 1996, where she had been awarded the Harry Mortimer Brass Student of the Year award. On leaving college, she joined the Royal Air Force as a Musician and performed throughout the world including Earls Court, Edinburgh Castle, The Cenotaph and the Falkland Islands. Following her RAF career, Heather moved to Cyprus and joined the acoustic trio Late 48. With Late 48, she supported and promoted ‘Hot Chocolate’ on their Cypriot tour and performed at large outdoor music festivals such as ‘The End of The World Party’ and ‘The Big Noize’. On her return to the UK in 2001, Heather joined up with Crauford and toured throughout the UK and Europe with the bands N-Compass and Synergy. With the formation of 54 North, Heather is returning to her love of folk music coupled with the delight she takes in both classical and brass band music helping to create a style that is unique to 54 North.

In addition to playing with 54 North Heather works with soundLINCS as both a music facilitator for early years and as an instructor for facilitators specialising in the compositional process.
